Hello! My name is Ryan Ferrigan, and I grew up attending Mass at St. Martha Parish in Okemos. The first time I felt called to serve God as a priest was when I was 17 years old; I attended the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday for the first time. I listened to the readings as Jesus established the great gifts of the priesthood and the Eucharist before his crucifixion, and as the Mass went on, I had a profound desire to grow closer to Him in the way the Apostles did that night. I saw the joy in the priests who were concelebrating the Mass, who had just renewed their priestly promises earlier that day at the Chrism Mass. After I left the Mass I thought to myself: “I could do that one day.” The desire to serve the Lord in this way remained with me throughout high school and college, and I am now discerning further at the seminary. If you’re a man who’s thinking about priesthood, the best thing you can do is take action. Contact your parish priest, go to a discernment group. Above all, put your trust in God.
