Death Notice: Father Michael A. Petroski (1947 - 2025) RIP

Of your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Michael A. Petroski who died June 12, 2025. He was 78 years old. May he rest in peace.

Michael Petroski was ordained to the sacred priesthood for the Diocese of Lansing by Bishop Carl Mengeling at Saint Mary Cathedral on June 10, 2000.

He served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Mary Cathedral from June 2000 to June 2001 before serving at Queen of the Miraculous Medal, Jackson, from June 2001 to October 2002. Father Petroski was then Administrator at Saint Joseph, Jackson, October 2002 to June 2003, before being appointed as Pastor of Saint Cornelius and Cyprian, Leslie, in June 2003. He served in this role until his retirement from active ministry in October 2015.

During retirement Father Petroski assisted local parishes as needed including at Saint Joseph in Whittaker, as well as helping many families with baptisms and funerals. He was also a member of Saint Andrew the Apostle parish, Saline, along with being active in the parish’s Knights of Columbus council.

Father Petroski’s obituary, attached below, describes him as “a gentle kind soul, who cared for his parishioners, and had a special concern for animals. He was very faithful about mailing cards and notes to so many people who knew him.” The exequies for Father Petroski are as follows:

He will lie in state at Saint Andrew the Apostle parish, 910 Austin Drive, Saline, on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 4pm until 7pm with a Scripture service beginning at 7pm.

Visitation will begin again at 10am, June 24, 2025, at Saint Andrew the Apostle parish, 910 Austin Drive, Saline, with Requiem Mass to follow with Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing as principal celebrant. Following Holy Mass, a funeral luncheon will be served at the church activity center.

The Rite of Committal will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 1pm at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp, Michigan. RIP.
