The Sacred Triduum: An Invitation

You and your family are invited to join Bishop Earl Boyea as he celebrates the Sacred Triduum this week from St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing – via livestream on the Diocese of Lansing Facebook page and YouTube page. The Chrism Mass on Thursday morning will also be live-streamed. The times of services are:

  • Holy Thursday, Chrism Mass, Thursday 9 April at 10.30am

  • Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Thursday April 9, at 7pm.

  • Good Friday, Passion of the Lord, Friday April 10, at 3pm.

  • Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil, Saturday April 11, at 8pm.

The three days of the Sacred Triduum recall the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This Chrism Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop even if, as will happen this year, nearly all of the priests of the diocese will be absent. During the Chrism Mass, the bishop also blesses three oils — the oil of catechumens (oleum catechumenorum or oleum sanctorum), the oil of the infirm (oleum infirmorum) and holy chrism (sacrum chrisma) — which will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the diocese for the year.
