There are many worthwhile messages that we can derive from today’s great Marian feast, but two seem particularly pertinent to me, write Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing, March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord.
First, God sends His Son to be one of us, to be with us, and to free us from sin and evil. He didn’t have to do that, but He did — all out of His boundless love for you and for me.
Second, God sends His Son to be a member of a family — in this case, the family of Joseph and Mary. This reminds us of the pivotal importance that the family plays in the story of salvation. As Pope Saint John Paul II once memorably said: “As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.”
Happy feast day!
