How is NFP used in health monitoring?
For nearly 50 years, Doctors John and Evelyn Billings and Doctor Tom Hilgers have been researching and fine tuning the ovulation methods of Natural Family Planning. One of the most important findings by these doctors is how to use methods of Natural Family Planning to help women monitor and improve their health by charting their cycles. These doctors have developed, within their respective methods (Billings and Creighton), a way to monitor and treat Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, a disease that effects up to 10% of women.
Dr. Hilgers went a step further by standardizing his Creighton Model FertilityCare System (CrMS) and expanding his research into endometriosis, painful periods, heavy bleeding, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and other cycle related issues that cause problems for women of all reproductive ages. This standardization and research led Dr. Hilgers to the development of a new science that he calls NaProTECHNOLOGY. Through the use of NaProTECHNOLOGY, specially trained doctors use different treatments (including surgery) to treat a myriad of reproductive issues.
Dr. Hilgers has already identified bio-markers that can indicate certain types of cancer, and his research continues in this area. He also continues expanding his research into new areas of women's health. He currently has pregnant women charting their bio-markers and is making progress in identifying signs that are linked to potential pregnancy complications.
