In just three weeks, a grand mural depicting the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:6-9) will be unveiled upon the apse of Saint John the Evangelist in Jackson. Watch this short film for a sneak preview of the artwork which is over 750 square feet and has taken a year to complete. You can also glimpse the prayerful process that has been employed by the artist, Joseph Macklin.
“The majority of the process has been what I would refer to as flying on the wings of the Holy Spirit,” says Joseph, “Ultimately, I think and hope that the artwork produced here will draw people closer to Christ and the Mass.”
42-year-old Joseph is an alumnus of Lumen Christi Catholic School in Jackson and Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. In 2020 he established the Instrumentum Dei Studio in Jackson to focus on devotional and liturgical art.
The first public viewing of the mural will take place at the Vigil Mass of Christmas, Wednesday, December 24, at 4pm whereupon Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing will be the principal celebrant. Then upon the Feast of Saint John the Evangelist, Saturday, December 27, there will be an interview with Joseph Macklin hosted at the parish after 9am Mass. Light refreshments will follow the interview. All are very welcome.
