Today is the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. To mark the occasion, here’s a brief reflection by Will Bloomfield, General Counsel of the Diocese of Lansing. Will writes:
“Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the infamous Supreme Court decision that, disregarding the text of the Constitution, invented a so-called right to abortion. Thankfully, with the Dobb’s decision last summer, Roe is now dead. This a tremendous victory for the pro-life movement and for the rule of law.”
“Sadly, even with Roe’s passing, the culture of death endures and our own state of Michigan (no doubt influenced by many years of growing accustomed to Roe) has inserted a right to abortion in its own constitution. So today, let us give thanks to God for the end of Roe and remain steadfastly committed to building a culture of life.”
Let us pray:
God our Creator, we give thanks to you, who alone have the power to impart the breath of life as you form each of us in our mother's womb; grant, we pray, that we, whom you have made stewards of creation, may remain faithful to this sacred trust and constant in safeguarding the dignity of every human life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
