Take a look at this photograph. It captures prayers being offered by Bishop Earl Boyea for the late Father David Hudgins at his graveside at Saint Joseph Shrine, Brooklyn, upon the first anniversary of his death, January 3, 2023.
“As we were saying prayers there together, a photograph was taken, in which it appears that a beam of light was shining directly down onto the Bishop and those assisting him, from the upper left-hand corner of the photo,” explained Father Zach Mabee, Pastor of Saint Joseph Shrine, to Michigan-based journalist Tracy Stengel, January 16.
“While we don’t ascribe such an image confidently or with haste to extraordinary supernatural causes, the photo has been for many a uniquely striking testimony to the power and love of God, in which we were all gathered, in gratitude, that night.”
Father Hudgins was only 53-years-old when he was killed in a car accident along U.S. 127 in Jackson County. As well as pastor of Saint Joseph Shrine, he was also Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Lansing.
The photograph captured at his graveside was taken by his friend, Marcia Kortas, who is also a parishioner at Saint Joseph’s Shrine. The image has now been shared widely among parishioners and further afield. Marcia believes the beam of light in the photograph is a sign.
“I think Father Dave did it to give us hope and to let us know he is still with us and that we are loved,” said Marcia to journalist, Tracy Stengel.
Please continue to pray for the repose of Father Hudgin's soul. Requiescat in pace. Amen.
