Genesis 12: 5
“And Abram took Sar’ai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions which they had gathered, and the persons that they had gotten in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan.” (Genesis 12:5)
- What did you hear?
- Who did Abram take with him?
- What else did he take?
- I wonder if we can find Canaan on a map?

Genesis 12: 6-7
When they had come to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land to the place at She’chem, to the Oak of Mo’reh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.” (Genesis 12: 6-7)
- What did you hear?
- Did Abram stop in Canaan? (No, he passed through).
- Who appeared to Abram?
- What did He say?
- I wonder why Abram built an altar to the Lord?

Genesis 13: 2-7
“Now Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. And he journeyed on from the Neg’eb as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place where he had made an altar at the first; and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle.” (Genesis 13: 2-7)
- What did you hear?
- Do Abram and Lot have a problem to solve?
- What is their problem?
- I wonder what they will do?
Wednesday, June 9th
Genesis 13:8-10a
“Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are kinsmen. Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.” And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw that the Jordan valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar.” (Gen 13: 8-10a)
- What did you hear?
- What is a “kinsmen”? (blood relative)
- What did Abram come up with?
- I wonder which way Lot will go?
Thursday, June 10th
Genesis 13: 11-12
“So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan valley, and Lot journeyed east; thus they separated from each other. Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, while Lot dwelt among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.” (Genesis 13: 11-12)
- What did Lot choose?
- I wonder why he chose the Jordan valley?
- I wonder why Abram let Lot choose?

Genesis 13: 14-18
“The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your descendants forever. I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if one can count the dust of the earth; your descendants also can be counted. Arise, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.” So Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the Oaks of Mamre, which are at He’bron; and there he built an altar to the Lord.” (Genesis 13: 14-18)
- What did you hear?
- What did the Lord tell Abram to do?
- What are descendants?
- I wonder how many descendants the Lord is telling Abram he will have?
- I wonder if we can find Hebron on a map in our Bible?

Genesis 14: 17-20a
“After his return from the defeat of Ched”-or-lao’mer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Sha’veh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchiz’edek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High. And he blessed him (Abram) and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” (Genesis 14: 17-20a)
- What did you hear?
- What did Melchiz’edek bring out? (bread and wine)
- Who do we know that brings out bread and wine and then says a blessing?
