Obituary of Sister Marie Josephine Lichowicz

Sister Marie Josephine, the former Josephine Lichowicz, was born April 28, 1936 in Detroit, Mich. She was accepted into the Felician Congregation June 21, 1953. At the investiture ceremony in 1954, she received the name Sister Mary Incarnata, later changed to Marie Josephine. Her first vows were pronounced in 1955 and final profession in 1961.Sister Marie Josephine earned a B.A. degree from Madonna University and a M.A. degree from the University of Detroit. She was a teacher/principal in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio: St. Andrew, Sacred Heart, St. Louis the King, St. Hyacinth, Ss. Christine and Gemma in Detroit; St. Francis, Flint; Holy Family, Ontonagon; St. Valentine, Kawkawlin; St. Cecilia, Clare; Manistee Catholic Central, Manistee; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wyandotte; Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Hamtramck; St. Genevieve, Livonia and St. Joseph, Jackson; and St. Adalbert, South Bend, Ind. and Toledo, Ohio.
Sister Marie Josephine completed her life’s journey in St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Livonia, Mich. on April 11, 2016.  She was 79 years old with 62 years in religious life. Sister Marie Josephine’s Mass of Christian Burial was April 14 at St. Colette Parish, Livonia, with Rev. Gary Michalik, pastor, as celebrant. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, Mich.
