Flint, MI - As Flint continues to struggle with water woes, Catholic Charities, in partnership with the American Red Cross, United Way of Genesee County, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and many other community members, is on the front lines of the relief and recovery efforts. Acting as ongoing support for community members and main donation drop-off location within the city, Catholic Charities is able to serve the people of Flint in many ways. “We are serving nearly 1,000 meals each day in our three soup kitchens, using filtered and bottled water,” says John Manse, Director of Community Services at Catholic Charities. “We also have clothing, personal hygiene items, and blankets available in our Community Closet. We want to ensure that everyone who needs help has a way to get it.”
“The overall health of our neighbors is a top priority,” adds Vicky Schultz, President and CEO of Catholic Charities. “We appreciate the outpouring of concern from individuals, families, churches and businesses, local and beyond, who are calling and stopping by to help. It’s inspiring and keeps us energized to meet the additional demands placed on our organization during time of crisis and great need. I encourage those who wish to make contributions of any kind, or wish to help our efforts, to call the Center for Hope at 810-232-9950, ext. 325.”
Community members can do their part to provide relief by donating cases or gallons of water, water filter kits and replacement filters, cash or checks. Donations of all kinds, including clothing, personal hygiene, and household items, are accepted Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Center for Hope, 517 E. Fifth Ave., Flint. Items are given to those in need at no charge.
