Livingston County Catholic Charities awarded grant monies

Livingston County Catholic Charities (LCCC) recently was awarded a grant of more than $12,000 from the Community Foundation for Livingston County, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. The grant monies were awarded to cover the cost of Trauma Informed training and certification for six LCCC therapists. Many of the individuals served by LCCC have experienced some form of trauma in their lifetime. Trauma-Informed training and certification will enhance the programming, benefit the clients, and allow them to lead a healthier life.
Recently, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that “Michigan is one of three states chosen by the federal government to help form policies designed to treat children who suffer from trauma caused by violence.” With the growing awareness in our criminal justice and foster care systems of the prevalence of trauma, there is a greater effort in both systems to implement Trauma-Informed Treatment practices to better serve those in need.
James Schepper, clinical director at LCCC notes “the grant will provide clinical training that is greatly needed in this community to deal with the overall effects of trauma on someone’s mental health and substance abuse behavior. This will enhance service delivery and help the individual deal with their issues. We are very grateful to the Community Foundation for Livingston County for their support.”
