Deacon John Cameron appointed chancellor

Bishop Boyea is pleased to announce the selection of Deacon John Cameron as the new Chancellor of the Diocese of Lansing, replacing Bishop-elect Steven Raica, who will be ordained Bishop of Gaylord on August 28.  Deacon Cameron, a native of Detroit and graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy, will assume this office upon the departure of Bishop-elect Raica.  
 

Deacon Cameron holds a Master’s in Theological Studies from St. John Provincial Seminary and a  Licentiate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America.  He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Povish in 1990.  John came to the Diocese of Lansing after serving with the Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Detroit.  After serving 13 years as Director of the Office of Deacons, he was appointed to the Tribunal of the Diocese of Lansing in 1998, and has served as Defender of the Bond since 1999.  
 

In announcing this appointment, Bishop Boyea said, “I am deeply gratified that Deacon John has accepted this call to further serve the people of God.  He is a man of intelligence, wisdom, and sound judgment, and I look forward to working with him in this vital role.”
