Maureen Campbell attended the Special Olympics day at Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor. She was there to assist her children, Caroline and Jack. Caroline started the event last year and Jack will be in charge in 2015.Maureen said, “It is such a wonderful thing that this event can happen. This year everyone is more comfortable with it.” Caroline agreed with her mother that everything is better organized and more people are helping. Even though this event might be better organized, the special needs children and adults didn't seem to notice. They were all smiles. According to the Special Olympic Director Jackie Flores, everyone was excited about returning to the school and remembered the great time they had last year.
Several football players shared what they liked about the day and said God had given them a way to give back, even though they felt the students gave them more. They hoped they will leave a legacy to the school and the tradition will continue for many years to come.
Melissa Moon, a junior, shared, “It is a powerful event. I think the best part is the smiles on all the kids’ faces. Deacon Dave Lawrence added, “It is a wonderful day for the entire county. We have seen the kids connected to one another.”
