Hanover Horton’s Junior Pro Program

For fourteen years, Chad Mortimer has been the Hanover Horton High School’s basketball coach. He played basketball while he was a student at St. John the Evangelist, Jackson’s Catholic Middle School and at Lumen Christi High School.
“We teach fundamentals to kindergarten through third grade students. We teach them how to be team players and we make it fun for them,” said Mortimer.
About 50 boys take part in the Junior Pro Program in which the high school basketball players teach them dribbling, shooting, passing and boxing out. One of the player’s father, Patrick Frohm shared, “I went to school with Chad and played at Lumen. It is a good program.”
Conner Johnson, an 11th grader who attends Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church in  Jackson said, “I was in the Junior Pro Program. We help the kids learn how to play basketball.”
Mortimer said the high school players have a 12-2 record.  Four times they have been at the Final Four, but have never won at the state level.
