A Valentine’s Day Party was held at Catholic Charities’ Holy Angels Warming Center and Soup Kitchen, 517 E. Fifth Avenue, from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Local home-school families served as hosts, distributing their own handmade Valentines, as well as cards designed by students at St. Pius Catholic School in Flint. Guests enjoyed decorations crafted by the eighth-graders from St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic School in Flushing, as well as punch and homemade cookies.“We are so grateful to the young people who share their time and talents with us,” comments Vicky Schultz, president/CEO of Catholic Charities. “It is truly heartwarming to see how much these students are taking an interest in giving back to our community. It’s been a hard winter for everyone and this is such a special treat for our Warming Center guests,” she added.
The Holy Angels Warming Center is open 24/7 from December through March, offering a warm place for anyone looking for shelter from the winter weather. This is the fourth season for the Warming Center program, which receives generous support from the C.S. Mott Foundation, as well as contributions from groups and individuals across the community.
