Students at St. Mary School participated in fund-raising drives this holiday season

The school adopted a family as part of St. Mary Parish’s Giving Tree, and collected more than $300 for gifts, such as warm winter coats, new pots and pans, warm socks, new bed sheets, boots and other items.
Students also collected 526 pounds of food to help fill holiday food baskets, organized each year by The St. Mary Men’s Club, to help those in need. In total, there were nearly 500 gifts and food baskets donated, benefiting four area agencies – St. Louis Center, Maxey Training, Pregnancy Helpline and Career Opportunity Works – and providing Christmas to 21 local families. Veronica Kinsey, the school’s principal, said the entire student body participated.
The school has a focus on service throughout the year, which includes monthly food drives to support the parish food pantry, making rosaries for missions – in its 13 year – an annual Walk-a-Thon (15% of proceeds go to Gleaners Food Bank) and year-long collection to St. Isadore, a Dominican Republic orphanage.
St. Mary will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week, the annual celebration of the high-quality, faith-based education the nation’s Catholic schools provide, Jan. 27-Feb. 2. This year’s theme is "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards." St. Mary School serves students in preschool to grade 8. For more information, call 734.878.5616 or visit stmaryschoolpinckney
