This is stunning! Watch as Bishop Earl Boyea offers Holy Mass for the dedication of the new altar within the newly renovated Church of the Resurrection in Lansing.
"I took a lesson from then Father Barron, now Bishop Barron, when he said, 'We need to lead with beauty. We need to lead with beauty'," explains Father Steve Mattson who has been pastor of Church of the Resurrection since 2012.
"It almost looks, as you're coming into the church, that you're going up the hill to Calvary, and then we're rising into this sanctuary, and looking up to heaven. Heaven comes to Earth."
The process of renovation took nine months to complete and was overseen by the Facilities Director of Church of the Resurrection parish, Chris Spalding, whose late father, Jack Spalding (1921 - 2014), oversaw the last renovation of the church back in 1981.
"It's gorgeous, from the chandeliers to the stations, to the saints, to the everything. It's just awesome," says Chris, welling up with tears as he surveys the renovated church interior.
"And I thank God that I was a part of it. I mean, I'm blessed to do something after my dad. It's pretty cool."
The Mass for the Dedication of an Altar took place on Saturday, January 25, the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul. The principal celebrant and homilist was Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing.
Concelebrating were Father Steve Mattson; Father Vincent Richardson, pastor of Cristo Rey in Lansing and a son of Church of the Resurrection parish; Father Joe Campbell, chaplain to Lansing Catholic High School; Father David Fons, pastor of Saint Mary in Williamston; Father Gordon Reigle, pastor of Saint Thomas Aquinas parish and Saint John Student Center in East Lansing; Father John Byers, senior priest of the Diocese of Lansing and former pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Lansing.
The architects for the renovation project were Joshua Papic of Architectural Solutions Ltd, Lansing; Phillip Breckler of Design Collaborative, Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Thomas Rajkovich of Thomas Norman Rajkovich Architect Ltd, Evanston, Illinois.
