A lecture was sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Crossroads Mission Chapter at Sienna Heights University. They hosted Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, to talk about Immigration Reform: “The Journey for Justice Continues.” She is the national coordinator of NETWORK and its executive director since 2004. NETWORK is a Catholic social justice lobby based in Washington, D.C.Sister Simone says there are 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Most have been here more than 10 years.
According to Sister Barbara Kelly, OP, Adrian Dominican communication specialist, “There are about one million applications a year for people to enter the United States to become citizens. Even though they are legitimate applications only about 400,000 are allowed to become citizens.”
The Francoeur Theatre at the college was filled with students, sisters and people from the local parishes of Adrian. They were there to find out how to lobby for more people to be allowed to enter the United States. They were strongly encouraged to contact their House of Representatives to help social justice prevail.
