This Thursday, August 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is also a Holy Day of Obligation. That means that all Catholics are obliged to attend Holy Mass.
Masses at Saint Mary Cathedral in Lansing will be at 8am, 12:05pm, and 5:15pm. All are very welcome. There will also be a generous provision of Masses in parishes across the Diocese of Lansing. Go to https://www.dioceseoflansing.org/ for details.
The Solemnity of the Assumption celebrates the fact that immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory. It is a day that has been celebrated by Christians under various names – Commemoration, Dormition, Passing, and Assumption – from at least the 5th or 6th century.
Have a wonderful feast day! Ave Maria!
