Read: Why Saint Dominic teaches us childlike trust in God by Sister Anthony Marie OP

Today is the Feast of Saint Dominic Guzman, the 13th century founder of the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans, who were established in 1215 to combat heresy through working with their minds by preaching and teaching.

“To me Saint Dominic is not just any other saint”, writes Sister Anthony Marie OP of the Ann Arbor-based Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, who teaches at Church of the Resurrection School in Lansing.

“He is my spiritual father, after all I am a Dominican Sister of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. His example of heroic charity, zeal for souls, contemplative spirit, and Marian heart has inspired me on a number of occasions to strive for sanctity.”

“My favorite characteristic of Saint Dominic is his childlike trust in God the Father. On one occasion there was no bread for the friars to eat, Dominic confidently and peacefully turned to God in prayer. Moments later, angels arrived at the scene and provided enough bread for all the friars to enjoy! I pray daily that my trust in God’s providence may be like my great spiritual father's.”

Have a happy feast day! Saint Dominic, pray for us!
