Father Tim Nelson, below, has been at the helm of Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Jackson since 2011. As pastor of a socially and ethnically diverse downtown parish, Father Nelson is insistent that no child be denied a Catholic education because of financial need.
By the grace of God, this is something Saint Mary's is able to achieve thanks to diocesan scholarships, generous parish tithing, personal outreach, and help from the Diocese of Lansing's Department of Education which is funded by the Diocesan Services Appeal or DSA.
“I know Bishop Boyea is very dedicated to Catholic schools,” says Father Nelson to FAITH Magazine's Elizabeth Hansen, noting that administrative leadership and diocesan support is only possible “through the generous donations to the DSA.”
