Read: Death with dignity | Mother Theresa House open new care home for the terminally ill

Bishop Boyea offered Holy Mass, May 2, to mark the official opening of a new Catholic care home for the terminally ill in Williamston. The new home is a second location for the Mother Teresa House for the Care of the Terminally Ill which was established in downtown Lansing in 1997.

Concelebrating the Mass were the Most Reverend Carl Mengeling, Emeritus Bishop of Lansing, and Father David Fons, pastor of Saint Mary in Williamston. At the conclusion of Mass, Bishop Boyea also reserved the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle of the hospice chapel.

Bianca Murray, Executive Director of Mother Teresa House, now explains the significance of this month’s official opening. Bianca writes:

This moment has been a long time coming. Our second Mother Teresa House location was purchased in 2022 under the prudent leadership of our foundress, Karen Bussey, who had the foresight to consider the long-term impact of our ministry on the surrounding community.

As the new executive director, I am grateful to her for this as we continue to grow and expand our ministry. Since the purchase of this home in Williamston, we have been moving forward with welcoming our first guest. This has been met with various obstacles and challenges, but we continue to move forward all by the grace of God!

And, now, with the celebration of our first Mass at this new location and with the “captain of our ship” firmly in place, I am confident that things will come together swiftly in order for us to receive our first guest. Our prayer has been for the prompt opening of this new home, but as God has shown us over and over, all in his time!

I find much encouragement in the words of our patroness, Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta: "Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”
