Invitation: A Novena upon Ordination to the Sacred Priesthood

You are invited to join in praying a novena, nine days of prayer, for Reverends Miguel Colunga-Santoyo, Mark Martin and Russell Ward, LC, in preparation for their ordination to the sacred priesthood on Saturday, June 12, the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Beginning today on Friday, June 4 and concluding on Saturday, June 12, let us pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be each day for the following intentions (based on the promises priests make upon their ordination), and ending with the prayer below.

We pray for our ordinands, Deacon Miguel, Deacon Mark, and Deacon Russell, that they may have the grace:

Day 1: To discharge without fail the office of priesthood as they care for the Lord’s flock.

Day 2: To exercise the ministry of the word worthily and wisely, preaching the Gospel and teaching the Catholic faith.

Day 3: To celebrate the Sacraments faithfully and reverently, for the glory of God and the sanctification of the Christian people.

Day 4: To implore God’s mercy upon the people entrusted to their care, by praying without ceasing.

Day 5: To be united more closely to Christ the High Priest, and consecrate themselves to God for the salvation of all.

Day 6: To be respectful and obedient to the Bishop and his successors.

Day 7: To remain faithful in their commitment to celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom of God, in service to God and man.

Day 8: To persevere in their vocation until death and be kept safe from every diabolical attack.

Day 9: To understand what they do, imitate what they celebrate, and always conform their lives to the mystery of the Lord’s cross.

Here us, we beseech you, Lord our God,

and pour out on these your servants the blessing of the Holy Spirit,

that these men, who are to be consecrated to your service,

may be surrounded by your rich and unfailing grace.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen!
