Harvest Hoe-Down for the Hungry to help fund Catholic Charities' soup kitchens

Cowboy boots and country music will flood Wild Spurs on Perry Rd., in Grand Blanc, Sat., Oct. 3, at the 4th annual “Harvest Hoe-Down for the Hungry.”  Everyone is welcome to come out and boot-scoot, to raise much needed funds for Catholic Charities’ North End, Center for Hope and South Flint soup kitchens. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., still only a $5 cover, guests will enjoy great music, dancing, food and drink specials, as well as prizes and a silent auction.Georgeann Ricketts, a Flushing resident, is once again organizing the event. A lifetime philanthropist, she has been raising money for those in need since she was a child. “I’ve been doing fundraising events for good causes since I can remember. When I heard how much funding Catholic Charities’ soup kitchens have lost, I knew I had to help,” says Ricketts.
“Whether you like to line dance or just want to sit and enjoy some good music, we encourage you to come out for a good time and support our cause,” says Vicky Schultz, president and CEO of Catholic Charities. “We have been blessed with individuals and groups who are willing to hold food drives and benefits on our behalf.
“Through support from the community and events like these, we were able to serve a record 175,000 meals in the past year, helping so many individuals and families in need,” added John Manse, director of Community Services.
DJ Dan Richards from WKCQ, a 35+ year radio veteran, will be spinning country hits, along with live entertainment from local band Group Therapy. Area individuals and businesses donated silent auction items, door prizes and raffle prizes.
