Of your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of the Reverend James Richard Shaver, priest of the Diocese of Lansing, who died yesterday, April 3, 2023. He was 73-years-old. May he rest in peace. The exequies for Father Shaver are as follows:
• Tuesday, April 11: Visitation from 3pm to 8pm at Saint John the Evangelist, 711 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Jackson, MI 49201 with a scripture service at 7pm with Father Jim Eisele presiding;
• Wednesday, April 12: Visitation from 10am at Saint John the Evangelist, 711 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Jackson, MI 49201 with Mass to follow at 11am. Principal celebrant will be Bishop Earl Boyea with Bishop Jerry Vincke as homilist. Burial to follow immediately after Mass at Saint John Cemetery.
Father Shaver was ordained to the sacred priesthood on June 10, 1989, at Saint Mary Cathedral, Lansing, by the Most Reverend Kenneth Povish. He then served in the following capacities:
• Parochial Vicar, Saint Therese, Lansing | June 1989 to June 1991;
• Pastor, Saint Mary, Pinckney | June 1991 to June 1995;
• Pastor, Saint John the Evangelist, Jackson | June 1995 to June 2014;
• Pastor, St Joseph, Jackson | July 2009 to June 2010;
• Vicar, Jackson Region | July 1996 to June 2014;
• Senior Priest Status | June 2014;
• The Catholic Community of Saints James, Cornelius & Cyprian | Senior Priest in Residence until April 2023.
