St. Mary Queen of Angels Parish in Swart Creek had its Vacation Bible School children participate in a “Thank you, Father” mission. The children were asked to pray and bring in their spare change for the Diocese’s retired priests. Lori Koester, contacted Pat O’Hearn, diocesan director of Development, for brochures about the “Caring of Our Treasured Gifts” campaign to donate the money collected to help build the senior priest residence in Burton. O’Hearn suggested having some of the senior priests visit the children during Vacation Bible School. So, on the morning of July 31, Father Tom Thompson and Father Joe Aubin came and received a warm welcome from the children that included spiritual bouquets of their prayers, a special “Thank you Father” song – and $475.01 in donations raised by the children for the “Caring of Our Treasured Gift” campaign. St. Mary utilized its K4J program – Kids for Jesus – and its “Circus of Stars” Bible school theme to spotlight “Father.” The children also learned about five great saints and confession, and worked on the virtue of balance – work, play, rest and pray each day. It was a beautiful week that ended with Mass and a party.
