Commentary on the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah, Chapter 11:
This chapter has three sections, each illustrating the tendency of God’s people to rebel. First, God recalls how He made promises to and freed the Israelites’ ancestors from Egypt. While the people of that generation should have responded thankfully to their Savior, they refused to obey His commands. The second section reveals that this same attitude of revolt against God is occurring with the present generation and there will be negative consequences. Third, Jeremiah speaks of his own life. He is being threatened for preaching God’s word, and he describes himself as a lamb led to slaughter. At the end of the chapter, we discover some of those seeking Jeremiah’s life are priests from his own family (see vs. 1:1).
The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah, Chapter 11:
Israel and Judah Have Broken the Covenant
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 3 You shall say to them, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man who does not heed the words of this covenant 4 which I commanded your fathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Listen to my voice, and do all that I command you. So shall you be my people, and I will be your God, 5 that I may perform the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day.” Then I answered, “So be it, Lord.”
6 And the Lord said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: Hear the words of this covenant and do them. 7 For I solemnly warned your fathers when I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, warning them persistently, even to this day, saying, Obey my voice. 8 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but every one walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. There- fore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.”
9 Again the Lord said to me, “There is revolt among the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10 They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers. 11 Therefore, thus says the Lord, Behold, I am bringing evil upon them which they cannot escape; though they cry to me, I will not listen to them. 12 Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they cannot save them in the time of their trouble. 13 For your gods have become as many as your cities, O Judah; and as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to shame, altars to burn incense to Baal.
14 “Therefore do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer on their behalf, for I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their trouble. 15 What right has my beloved in my house, when she has done vile deeds? Can vows and sacrificial flesh avert your doom? Can you then exult? 16 The Lord once called you, ‘A green olive tree, fair with excellent fruit’; but with the roar of a great tempest he will set fire to it, and its branches will be consumed. 17 The Lord of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil which the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done, provoking me to anger by burning incense to Baal.” 18 The Lord made it known to
me and I knew; then you showed me their evil deeds.
19 But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter.
I did not know it was against me
they devised schemes, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree with its fruit,
let us cut him off from the land of the living,
that his name be remembered no more.”
20 But, O Lord of hosts, who judge righteously,
who test the heart and the mind,
let me see your vengeance upon them,
for to you have I committed my cause.
21 Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, and say, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, or you will die by our hand”—22 therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will punish them; the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine; 23 and none of them shall be left. For I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, the year of their punishment.”

11 1 Palabra que fue dirigida a Jeremías
de parte del Señor:
2 –Escuchad las cláusulas de esta
alianza y comunicadlas a los hombres de
Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén. 3 Les
has de decir: «Esto dice el Señor, Dios de
Israel: “Maldito el hombre que no escuche
las palabras de esta alianza, 4 que Yo
ordené a vuestros padres cuando los saqué
de la tierra de Egipto, del horno de
hierro, diciéndoles: Escuchad mi voz y
haced todo lo que os mando. Así seréis
mi pueblo y Yo seré vuestro Dios, 5 y cumpliré
el juramento que hice a vuestros padres
de darles una tierra que mana leche
y miel, tal como sucede el día de hoy”».
Yo respondí, diciendo:
–¡Amén, Señor!
6 Y el Señor me dijo:
–Pregona todas estas palabras por
las ciudades de Judá y por las calles de
Jerusalén: «Escuchad las palabras de
esta alianza y llevadlas a la práctica.
7 Porque ya advertí encarecidamente a
vuestros padres el día que los hice subir
de la tierra de Egipto, y hasta hoy les he
advertido continuamente: “Escuchad
mi voz”. 8 Pero ellos no me escucharon,
ni prestaron oído, sino que cada cual caminó
siguiendo su perverso y obstinado
corazón. Por eso he hecho recaer sobre
ellos todas las palabras de esta alianza,
que Yo les había ordenado cumplir y no
lo hicieron».
9 También me dijo el Señor:
–Se ha encontrado una conjura entre
los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de
Jerusalén:
10 han vuelto a las iniquidades de sus
antepasados, que rehusaron escuchar
mis palabras y han seguido a dioses extranjeros
para servirles. La casa de Israel
y la casa de Judá han roto la alianza que
sellé con sus padres.
11 »Por ello, esto dice el Señor: «Yo les
voy a traer una desgracia de la que no
podrán escapar. Clamarán a Mí, pero Yo
no les escucharé. 12 Entonces, las ciudades
de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén
acudirán a clamar a los dioses a los que
queman incienso, pero no podrán salvarlos;
de ningún modo podrán salvarlos
en el momento de su desgracia.
13¿Dónde están tus dioses, que te hiciste?
Que se levanten, si es que pueden
salvarte
en el momento de tu desgracia,
pues tantos como tus ciudades
son tus dioses, Judá.
Otros tantos altares a la Vergüenza,
altares para quemar incienso a Baal.
14 »Pero tú no intercedas por este
pueblo, ni eleves súplicas ni oraciones
en su favor, porque no les escucharé
cuando clamen a Mí en el momento de
su desgracia».
15¿Qué busca mi amada en mi casa?
¿Llevar a cabo sus maquinaciones?
¿Es que votos y carne consagrada
apartarán de ti tus maldades,
para que te alboroces?
16«Olivo lozano», adornado de hermoso
fruto,
te había puesto por nombre el Señor.
Pero al son de un gran tumulto,
le prendió fuego
y ardieron sus ramas.
17 El Señor de los ejércitos, que te
plantó, ha decretado el mal contra ti, a
causa de la maldad que la casa de Israel
y la casa de Judá han perpetrado irritándome
al quemar incienso a Baal.
18El Señor me lo ha hecho saber, y yo
me he enterado.
Me mostraste entonces sus fechorías.
19 Yo, como un manso cordero llevado
a inmolar, ignoraba las maquinaciones
que tramaban contra mí: «¡Derribemos
el árbol en su vigor, cortémoslo de
la tierra de los vivos, y no se mencione
más su nombre».
20¡Señor de los ejércitos,
que juzgas con justicia,
que escrutas entrañas y corazón,
que vea yo cómo te vengas de ellos,
pues a ti presento mi causa!
21 Así pues, esto dice el Señor a los
hombres de Anatot que atentan contra
mi vida diciendo: «No profetices en
Nombre del Señor si no quieres morir
en nuestras manos».
22 Así pues, esto dice el Señor de los
ejércitos: «Yo los castigaré: los jóvenes
morirán a espada. Sus hijos y sus hijas
morirán de hambre. 23 No quedará resto
de ellos, porque Yo traeré la desgracia
a los hombres de Anatot el año de
su castigo».

A pesar de la fidelidad de Dios, su pueblo continúa rebelándose. Señor, ¿en qué parte de mi vida me estoy resistiendo a tí? ¿Dónde necesito decir como lo hizo Jeremías "Que así sea, Señor"? (vs5)
