Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
On Saturday, May 11, at Saint Thomas Aquinas parish in East Lansing, I had the great privilege of ordaining seven young men to the diaconate for the Diocese of Lansing. For each of them, God willing, this is the penultimate step towards the sacred priesthood. As deacons, they are now ordinary ministers of the Eucharist who can assist the priest or bishop at the altar during Holy Mass. What a wonderful thing! Hence, this week On the Road to Emmaus, I want us to pause in order to let ourselves be inspired by the testimony of these newly ordained young men. So, without any further ado, let me introduce you to our new deacons. For me, they are a “magnificent seven’.
