Sacred Heart of Jesus Hispanic Community's Mass

Reverend Tim Nelson, pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish and Sacred Heart of Jesus Hispanic Community, celebrated a Spanish Mass for the feast of the Annunciation at St. Stanislaus Church in Jackson. During the homily, Father Tim sat with the children talking to them in Spanish.
In 1978, Bishop Povish organized the Sacred Heart of Jesus Hispanic Community. A couple who have been married for 45 years, David and Maria Sauceda, take care of the church. David is one of the ushers, and he opens and closes the church. He said that the Spanish community is growing.
Maria shared, “I am the sacristan and sing in the choir. I do baptism preparation and am a eucharistic minister. I do a little bit of everything.” One of the servers at Mass, Jessica Vasquez, said she also serves at St. Mary Star of the Sea.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Hispanic Community offers many events for the Spanish community. On Dec. 12, it celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It also celebrates the Sacred Heart of Jesus feast day, and other novenas and fiestas.
Each Sunday at noon, a Spanish Mass is offered at St. Stanislaus located at 602 S. Elm Avenue in Jackson. All are welcome to attend.
