Bishop Earl Boyea and the Department of Catholic Charities recently hosted the 4th annual Catholic Charities Day at Bethany House in DeWitt.  The guest speaker was Msgr. Anthony Figueiredo of the Vatican Dicastery Cor Unum, the dicastery responsible for both the Church's catechesis of charity and its concrete works of charity.

Msgr. Anthony spoke on the often misunderstood relationship between charity and justice in light of Deus Caritas Est and Caritas in Veritate.  His talk highlighted the need for those involved in Catholic Charities to have well-formed hearts so they can offer God's love - true charity.

His talk can be acessed here:

“Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia…There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with regard to abortion and euthanasia.”

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Prefect for the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, Letter to Cardinal McCarrick 2004
